Mr."Heads
High"Vegas reached the pole-position in NM for the first time in
almost 4 years. His extra-catchy "Tamale" has gone beyond being
exclusively popular with the ladies and finally toppled the Beenie Man/Miss
Thing combination. On March 27th I will interview this dancehall star
on Reggae Runnins Radio in Santa Fe, NM, 90.7fm KSFR, around 8:30pm Mountain
Time. I will also air the interview on KUNM, which is online. I'll keep
y'all posted, so outta towners can check it too. Vegas just signed a contract
with hip-hop label Delicious Vinyl, which has already resulted in his
tune "Pull Up" (on the COOLIE DANCE) getting decent rotation
on commercial hip-hop/r&b (including KISS fm in Albuquerque) radio-stations.
On top of that US-artist Pitbull pretty much ripped off Vegas' melody
and re-did the tune in Spanish (apparently without his permission), which
is also running up & down the airwaves. "Pull Up" is just
barely bubbling under this chart.
Other than that, the charts are split into two halves this time around.
While not much has changed in the top half, where Dave Kelly's FIESTA
and Big Yard's SALSA still run tings, a number of new entries managed
to get into the bottom one. Internationally extremely popular tunes as
Tanya Stephen's "It's A Pity", Natty King's "Don't Bring
Your Guns To Town", and TOK's "Gal U A Lead" finally reached
our mountains. Cobra charts on the COOLIE DANCE with the hardcore "Wuk
Dat", while two different (various riddims) selections from the Penthouse
label represent the rootical-tip this time around with artists as Tony
Rebel, Nicky Burt & Assassin. Just saw that more tunes are out on
that massive 2 Miles riddim (Natty King) with Capleton & others. Oughta
be good.
Jah
