updated August. 12, 2006

12 newcomer tunes in our monthly top 20 this time around, carrying a fresh breeze across reggae New Mexico I hope. While Cham maintains the pole position and the 85 riddim still charts by way of Assassin & Yellowman, the vibe appears to be on its way out, if I’m not mistaken. March seems to be all about Vybz Kartel, as a number of the first singles off his “JMT” album appear here. Foremost is the incredibly whacky “Vysy Versa Love”, which features a micky-mousy Barrington voice over a fast marching riddim: pink floyd “the wall” meets hardcore dancehall in a digital shoot-out!!! Further riddims he shines on include HELLO MOTTO, JUMP OFF and the theme from Beverly Hills Cop the ALEX F.

Don Corleon’s SWEAT riddim features here, courtesy of the grrreat Beenie Man track, as does Big Yard’s WILD 2NITE with Black-Er & Macka Diamonds controversial “Bun Him”. The Renaissance crew around Delano released their new smasher, the ICE BREAKER and tunes by Sean Paul, Red Square and Busy Signal have serious hit-potential. Delly Ranks has a new production out entitled REDBULL & GUINNESS (one of the more popular dancehall drinks these days, I suppose), as Freddy McGregor’s son Chino joins him on the title-track. Legends’ GALORE riddim has also hit these shores now with extreme selections by both Idonia and Dr.Evil, while the new MUDD UP holds tight with the gargamel Buju Banton at the helm.

On the roots-front, a wonderful new beat called the ISTANBUL has hit the shops, lead by TOK’s “Marijuana” and Jah Cure’s “What Will It Take”. Gyptian’s “Serious Times” looks to be on its way out, yet his new hit “Mama” on the No Doubt label has already hit the #3 spot. He definitely appears to be on course for more than just a “one-hit-wonder”-so big up Gyptian !!! Mr.Vegas has a MONSTER roots tune out on Yogie’s Fi Wi Music (BUY people !!!), plus there are alo some nice female selections on the project bubblin under. And oh yeah, Marlon Asher and his ganja farmer crew is still kickin around somewhere as well.

Until such time;
