RICHIE SPICE CONQUERS NEW MEXICO !!!!
I
cannot remember the last time a conscious artist hit our #1 spot, much
less a singer. I could be mistaken but I'm thinking it may be all the
way back in 2001 when artists as VC and George Nooks were red-hot; ya
know "By His Deeds" and "God Is Standing By". Anyways:
Richie Spice did it, so congrats out to the entire 5th Element family
(easy Kim). Always having been talented, Richie has really busted out
in 2003, 2004 and 2005, and the effects can be felt all the way in New
Mexico now as well. Just check his debut album on 5th Element entitled
"Spice In Your Life". Not one weaker moment on the entire project,
so those of you who are looking for modern roots & culture, THIS IS
IT!!! The other man of the hour has to be Baby Cham, who has 3 tunes in
our top 5 alone. For an artist with not that much output, he surely strikes
gold quite often, refusing to release mediocre tunes whatsoever. Pretty
clever scheme him and DAve Kelly seem to have developed, because it surely
is working. Further entires on Dave's BAD GAL riddim include Spice by
herself, as well as in a combination with Toi, the latter currently clocking
in at #3. Black Chiney's KOPA still is faring well, with 3 tracks (at
#4, #9 and #15), as is H2O's SLOW BOUNCE with selections from Nicky B
and the warlord-turned pum-pum mechanic, Bounty Killer. Brand-new on the
KLYMAXX is Capleton's wicked "Place Burn Down", while his "Ask
For What You Want" on John John's CHICATITA charts at #20. All of
the last three riddims have been licensed and released by Greensleeves
and you can check their full reviews at www.brotherhoodsound.com. The
remainder of this chart is on the rootsy tip, with Lion Paw's 2004 riddim
9-11 (that's right NINE ELEVEN) hitting hard this time with no less than
4 tracks through the voices of Jah Cure, Richie Spice (again), Bushman
and Warrior King. I-Wayne climbed back up to #7, Chuck Fender's "I
Swear" re-entered at # 16 and Bounty Killer & Pinchers 2004 remake
of "Bandolero" (yeah the 1991 hit) jumps on board as well. Many
roots fans consider the HARD TIMES riddim (one of the last projects that
ET Thompson who passed away last November had his hands on, together with
Joe Gibbs' son Gibbo) the real heavyweight in the roots arena these days,
and the beat is represented by Capleton's "That Day Will Come"
this time (with further killer tunes from I-Wayne and Bascom X (amongst
others) bubbling under. Plenty
more music is on its way in the near future. Mario-C will be releasing
his follow-up to the SCOOBAY and South Rakkas' BIONIC RAS is sounding
very promising again with the singles out now and Greensleeves picking
up the project soon come. There is a crucial roots riddim coming out of
Germany entitled CRYSTAL WOMAN, with a resemblance to the massive DOCTORS
DARLING (which was also outta Germany-easy Pionear). That's
it for now. See you in the dance, or check us on the air/net; |
