Gong does it again!!! Last month's #1, the massive "Welcome To Jamrock"
is this month's top-a-top as well. Aside from that, I am quite happy that
there is a VERY healthy mix of both dancehall & roots tunes represented
in this chart, with the latter even dominating slightly for
once. Combination tune of the year HAS to be Peter Tosh alongside Buju
Banton with "Must Get A Beaten", where Peter's original vocal
is spliced up-combination-style, over what sounds like an updated version
of the riddim. Other gems on it include Capleton & Junior Reid's red-hot
"Forgive Them" as well as good tracks by the likes of Richie
Spice and Everton
Blender. Mr.Perfect's "Handcart Bwoy" was released in 2004 already,
yet it just made it into my hands. My FAVORITE upcoming artist, even ahead
of Fantan Mojah and about even with I-Wayne, Mister Perfect has an unusual,
youthful, VERY refreshing style! Hope to hear more &m bigger things,
as I see that he's being voiced quite a bit in this time. South Florida's
Eight 76 Records are rocking NM these days with a modern skankster-the
SKABREEZE.
Luciano
has climbed to #12, while Christini's "Magic Stuff" just entered
our chart at #14. Nice One! Rounding out the roots selection are Jah Cure,
as well as former #1 TOK on the DROP LEAF riddim, which is obviously on
its way out & about to be replaced by the new SEASONS.
Finally
its hitting NM like the raging storm that it is: Jah Snowcone's APPLAUSE
beat has risen to further impact out here, with the massive celebrating
it ina di dance & Brotherhood bussing it on the air. 3 tracks
are featured this time around, by Shane-O (who has climbed to #6), Sizzla
(who has hit #8) and Mr.Dutty Cup at #11! Crucial piece-a-riddim and definitely
one of the best on the hardcore-front in 2005!! Birch's
"church-influenced" MY SWING is also outta this world with anthems
by Ele (finally again!), Kartel, TOK, Macka D, and the list just goes
on & on as EVERYOINE seems to have risen to the occasion on this one.
Hallelujah!!!
Richard
"Call Me Shams" Browne finally scores again with TOK's mean-ass
"Booyah"-one great fassy-burnin'-anthem by a group who certainly
specializes in just that. Dem Yute Deh released a new riddim called GRIMEY
on Greensleeves which is quite original (franco-influenced with a frenchie
accordion) and Capleton's "Hot Suh" made it, while the everliving
JONKANOO is still kickin' up rumpus with Beenie Man, TOK, & Sean Paul.
Until
next month,
