After a number of times as the runner-up, Wayne Anthony & Mr. Vegas have finally topped the NM charts with their massive dancehall hit "Pull Up". As the tune has consistently been ranked in our top 5 for quite a few months now, I predict it to be tune of the year in NM for 2004. Othwerwise 357 Records' SCOOBAY riddim rates highly for September with no less than 6 tunes in our top 20. For Tony Matterhorn & Richie Feelings (as for most other selectors) its "All about dancing", while Future Troubles & Tony Curtis do the "Scoobay Anthem". Beenie Man & Cartel come across as "Breast Specialist", Delly & Voice Mail are into "Party Time", Vybez is keeping it "Stress Free" and Ele states :"I Swear".
South Rakkas red-hot RED ALERT riddim is still strong in the Southwest, as it is represented by the likes of TOK (#3), Capleton (#8), Mr.Easy (#11), Cecile (#18) and the Papichulo Crew (#19). Other, new releases that made it are Maximum Sound's BLUE STEEL through the voice of Future Troubles (again? must be busy again all of a sudden !!!) and Vendetta's COOL FUSION with Cartel's "Real Bad Man". Black House's BLACKOUT riddim is still represented by Cartel's "KISSING", as the Portmore dj HAS to be the man of the moment in JA & beyond.
On the rootical front Michael Rose's "Kill Off The President" shot way up to #6, Richie Spice climbed a few slots up to #15 again and the veteran Simple Simon's (who passed away this year) "Hang Down Your Head" hit the # 16 spot. Again: many of these riddims, as RED ALERT, BLACKOUT, SCOOBAY, BLUE STEEL & COOL FUSION are reviewed in our review section, so check 'em there.
Bless:
